Short Lombardy Getaway

Over the long Ascension Weekend we decided to slip away for a short Getaway to the wonderful rural Lombardy 🌾🌿🍀🌳🌱 not only the delicious food, but also the relaxed lifestyle, the "dolce far niente" attracts us to wonderful Italy at least once a year.

We stayed at a very lovely B&B close to the charming small town of Varese. The landscape there is dominated by rolling hills and a variety of lakes in all dimensions. Except for Varese, there are only very small and whimsical villages, with streets so narrow that its sometimes impossible to cross with a car.

Varese itself can easily be visited within half a day. The city is pedestrians only and along the Main Street you can find a variety of shops whilst following the shade of the arcaded sidewalk. Our favorite thing to do after a bit of shopping is sitting in the cafés and enjoying a cold beer or a very strong espresso. As Italy is famous for the delicious food, we of course checked out the local pastry shops, where you can find a wide range of "Dolci" for every taste:

In the close neighborhood of Varese there are various lakes, almost all of them have a small Park where you can take a break and lay in the shade and watch the day go by:

Short before sunset it is time to find a good spot to relax before dinner (which is usually taken quite late, before 7pm we could hardly find an open restaurant). The best Lake Bar we found is a very hidden one, you have to follow a tiny and steep road lake, but it was definitely worth it 😌
